COVID-19 and Domestic Violence

COVID-19 and Domestic Violence

For some families, it is a gift to be at home together more. Spending quality time together and with your children is good for all homes in America. According to an article by Emily Leslie and Riley Wilson which appears in American Politics and Policy and the London School of Economics at https://bit.ly/2UvIJp, there has been a ten percent increase in domestic violence cases across the country; an increase of about 1,400 cases across the United States each day!! Families…

Peace in The Midst of War

Peace in The Midst of War

DO NOT PANIC!!! In Matthew 24:6 Jesus tells us that ” you shall hear of wars and rumors of wars (or pestilence and violence) See that you be not troubled, for all these things must come to pass but the end is not yet.” And in Deuteronomy 31:6 God says to Moses and the people “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them (he was about to go to war)for the Lord thy God,…

30 Days of Fasting and Prayer

30 Days of Fasting and Prayer

Join us for the next Thirty days as we take a moment at noon to bow our head and ask the Father for peace and healing and safety. It is critical for all our nation and especially for women, youth, and children who may be locked in with an abusive person. Pray: II Chronicles 7:14 If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their sinful ways, then…

So Now We Begin

So Now We Begin

This has been a momentous year for Hope’s Door. We began the year with a day of prayer and fasting at the wooded cabin of a friend out in the country. It did not feel like we did any great planning but what has developed since is beyond anything we could have put together.  The Lord knew our hearts. Next, we worked on refreshing our mission and vision statement and then restructuring our board. It was exciting to make calls and…

October Domestic Violence Awareness Event

October Domestic Violence Awareness Event

This is domestic violence awareness month and Hope’s Door just held it’s first awareness event at the chapel on the Chelsea King’s Home Campus the evening of October 11, 2016. It was well attended with over 100 youth, women, and guests. Shelby County Judge Lara Alvis as well as Shelby County Sheriff’s Outreach Coordinator, Debra Sumrall were in attendance. The evening opened with an inspiring interpretive dance by several of our lady residents to the song, “Break Every Chain.” We…

Hope for the Hurting

Hope for the Hurting

It’s 7:00 am Saturday morning with a forecast of rain and overcast skies. The nine of us have loaded the vehicles and now stand hand in hand to ask God to move through our hands and feet and voices as we serve the women at Jessie’s Place. We arrive and set up. No one. Then there is one woman. Slowly another arrives. We wonder should we start anyway? O ye of little faith!!! Within a few more minutes there are…

By The Washing of Water

By The Washing of Water

Ephesians 5:26 NIV gives a key that I have used often this week: That we can be made holy and clean. We all want that. I love this picture of the mighty roaring ocean waters swirling and washing around the rocks. Scientifically we know that action does eventually wear down the rock and it scours it completely with every wave. As women whose lives are often filled with such dirt and grime from life itself, we often feel the need…

Unexpected First Day

Unexpected First Day

God always has surprises for you and He knows what you can do even when you don’t. In fact, you wouldn’t have done it! So, I am hot and sweaty, no makeup, it’s 5 pm and I am searching the facility’s kitchen for ice and water. I hear a soft voice speaking “I’m looking for Ms. Liz?” Somehow the first clients I had scheduled for the next day were told to come today by their supervisor and this was the…

Still Standing in Amazement

Still Standing in Amazement

There we were, little lights blinking on above the altar.  Mitch had begun to play the piano tenderly, lightly, beautifully. Then you could feel momentum build, the chorus became a rolling chant of adoration…within 3 minutes we had moved into the Presence of Jehovah. As the person everyone looked to for leadership, I was terrified. Worship was going beyond the traditional, marching majestically into the supernatural….was I supposed to do something? I could not make my feet move, I turned…

Ephesians 3:20 God Did More Than We Could Imagine!

Ephesians 3:20 God Did More Than We Could Imagine!

Yesterday we had our “catch up” seminar that was designed just to bless and teach the Kings Home women that had not been able to come in November. We also had girls from two youth homes at Kings Home. It was beautifully decorated once again by our friends to Hope’s Door and the food was outstanding. We were organized and ready. As we began the second teaching of the day one young woman spoke up and said “Well…
