“Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not….” (John 4: 14-15a)
In 2017 Hope’s Door has given this water of life to hundreds of women and their children through outreach counsel, and training. Because of you we have met these “women at the well.” Just as this woman in scripture, they came ostracized, cast down and out, and suffering from the broken relationships that happen when sin controls lives. Abusive relationships destroyed families in Jesus time and abuse continues to destroy women and families today. It is the number one health problem of women in America. 1 in 3 women experience abuse! But your support has made a difference this year!
You made a difference in Shayla’s life! She had recently been brought by police to the shelter where we were doing our Eat, Play, and Pray Outreach. We learned of the abuse she had suffered after coming to this country with hopes every new bride has for happiness. Instead, she became the victim of domestic violence. As we talked we learned she had never heard of Jesus Christ. We led her to salvation and she cried tears of joy that people she didn’t even know would care to bring her the hope only He can give. We showered her with gifts and good food and love and celebrated with her that she had been led to a safe place where she would be able to take steps toward a new life.
We have spent many hours in 2017 developing more material to train and equip leadership on how to recognize, counsel, and empower women in abusive relationships. We have trained over 145 women and men in our S.A.V.E. (Serving Abuse Victims Effectively) curriculum and our Pastors and Advocates Quick Reference Guide, had over 200 volunteers to assist with service projects, and put together more than 400 hygiene kits to be given to women in need. We have also continued to gather with other interested women weekly to pray and have seen many answers to those prayers!
Thank you for helping us give the water of life to Shayla and many more like her in 2017!
