Elizabeth (Liz) Sherrell

Founder and President of Hope’s Door

Liz holds a Masters and Specialist Degree in Christian counseling  from Samford and Zoe University’s. She worked over 30 years in administration with Kings’ Home In Chelsea, AL, and was  Operations Director the last several years there. She retired from Kings Home in 2017. She gained valuable experience with women in King Home shelters who were fleeing abuse. Having herself experienced abuse in her first marriage, she authored a book “Do You See This Woman,” that explains her story and gives much information about the subject of abuse. Liz is a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She continues to find much personal fulfillment in working with women in crisis both in shelters and from the community

Michelle Sylestine

Co-Founder and Executive Director of Hope’s Door

Michelle Sylestine, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Hope’s Door, has been a part of the ministry of Hope’s Door since 2017. She has a heart for working with women. She started off her training at World Evangelism Bible College in 1987-1988. After which she also attended Southern Institute and Jefferson State Community College. She married Jason Sylestine in 1989. They have four children and they have raised many more. After staying home to raise her children she joined Liz to pursue her passion for ministering to women. She started back her learning path and became an Ordained Minister through Joan Hunter Ministries. She Is a Victim Advocate through University of North Alabama. She completed Transformation School of Ministry in 2017. She became a Board Certified Mental Health Coach through the Association of Christian Counselors IBCC in 2021. Most recently she completed her Associates of Science in Psychology and Christian Counseling with Liberty University in 2023. She will be finished with her bachelors in 2024 and plans to complete her Masters and obtain her LPC. 

Rebecca Hickman

Accounting

She has worked with QuickBooks for the past 5 years and loves being able to help non-profits with keeping their books accurate. She has her B.S. degree as well as her master’s degree and spent 10 years as a college professor. She started her own firm two years ago and since has spent her time working with small businesses and non-profit organizations. She helps keep them on track to their financial goals.
